Apparently I’m in a Warcraft drawing mood, heck even fantrolls (yes I caved), even though I should be working on my Taking Utopia round…
I still have other things I need to do! It would be so nice to have a time machine or an all powerful stop watch that stopped time temporarily. Hmmm… Oh well! Back to drawing!

Comparisons ≠ Compliments

When will people learn? This rant will focus around how Tower Tournament ≠ Ebon Spire ≠ Portal. Ready? Let’s begin.
Character Comparison Syndrome (CCS)
What is with people and their need to compare everything? Do they truly believe it is a complement to an artist when their original character is compared to Copyrighted or Trademarked characters? Well it’s not.
I try to be patient with these folk, but after being barraged with such stupidity, I can’t help but feel a tad defeated. It is slowly and painfully killing my love and passion for my own creations.
Of course there are some of these comparisons that I don’t mind much at all. But when someone says “Wow! You’re character is just like _____!” or “They remind me so much of ____! Please don’t kill me.” Or even “I want to compare them to ____. Hope you don’t mind.” That. How my blood just burns with a fury. If it is little aspects that make the characters similar, then they are not “just like that character”.
Here is a fun one I have gotten:
- Bosa = Na’vi (James Cameron’s AVATAR)
- Only similarities: Blue skin and they have a tail.
- Conclusion: NOT THE SAME THING. BUT SIMILAR ASPECTS.
Here is another one:
- ABLE = GLaDOS (Portal)
- Only similarities: Both are robots. Android!GLaDOS designs tend to have similar aspects—like hair style.
- Conclusion: NOT THE SAME THING. ONE SIMILAR ASPECT—Android designs do not count.
Get the picture? Just stop your comparison while you’re ahead, otherwise it might come back and bite you in the ass.
